Biography

Dick Daniels has been a public relations practitioner for 24 years, after working nearly 15 years as a newspaper reporter and editor.

For 13 years he was president of Berkman & Daniels, Inc. which had become the third largest public relations firm in San Diego when he and his partner sold it in 1991.  Dick opened his present solo communications practice in 1994 to specialize in strategic communications, crisis management, and media interview training.

During his career, he has handled several crises for organizations of all types – from a professional baseball team to a Jewish synagogue. From 1997 to 1999, he served as Executive Director of Communications and Community Relations for the San Diego Unified School District, overseeing those functions for an organization with 16,000 employees, 140,000 students at 176 schools throughout the San Diego metropolitan area.

For his work at San Diego City Schools, Dick was honored as “Public Relations Professional of the Year” in 1999 by the San Diego PRSA chapter.

Dick is a graduate of San Jose State University and later completed graduate work at the University of Missouri School of Journalism.  He is an Accredited Member (APR) of the Public Relations Society of America and a member of that organization’s Counselors Academy as well as the National Schools Public Relations Association.
